Power

The company has been associated with the Godbole Committee for developing a strategy for sector reforms in Maharashtra, advising Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. on privatization and providing financing & investment advisory and support to National Thermal Power Corporation.

As on March 31, 2008, IDFC's outstanding disbursement in the power sector was
Rs. 12,546 crore - 36.9% of aggregate outstanding disbursement. Over the last decade IDFC has financed power projects aggregating to about 10000 MW. Some of the projects that IDFC has financed or has been associated with include a 1050 MW project by Torrent Power Corporation and a 1050 MW project by Monnet Ispat. Other projects include those by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, Karnataka Power Corporation Limited, Gujarat State Petronet Ltd., Tata Power Company Ltd, Petronet LNG Ltd., Gujarat Adani Energy Ltd. and Reliance Gas Transportation Infrastructure Limited. IDFC has also financed transmission projects like the Tala project of Powerlinks, a JV between Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd and Tata Power Company.

IDFC Projects is evaluating several opportunities to develop generation projects in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. These include coal-based thermal power projects as well as renewable energy projects.

IDFC Projects and IREDA, Ministry of Renewable Energy have executed an MOU for jointly developing a renewable energy programme. We have also incorporated a special purpose vehicle, CINTRAN for developing an integrated transmission network for evacuation of power in Chhattisgarh. The company is evaluating other opportunities in this sector including setting up Build, Operate, Own and Maintain (BOOM) projects.
